Biographical Information

Jack Brohamer played nine years in the American League, from 1972 to 1980. He was primarily a second baseman although he also appeared more than 100 times at third base.

Jack was born in Maywood, CA, and attended Huntington Beach High School. He played four years in the minors, usually hitting around .270, and came to the majors in 1972, becoming a regular with the Cleveland Indians. He formed a double play combo with shortstop Frank Duffy for several years. Jack hit his first two career home runs on June 9, 1972 against the Minnesota Twins. Both were hit off Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven in consecutive innings. After the 1975 season, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox for Larvell Blanks. He stayed with the team in 1976 and 1977, as they improved to win 90 games in 1977 (the year of the South Side Hit Men). With the Pale Hose, he hit for the cycle (September 24, 1977) and became the only man in big league history to homer in uniform shorts, taking Rudy May of the Baltimore Orioles deep on August 21, 1976. He became a free agent and signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1978, reuniting with Frank Duffy. He was hitting well in 1980 when sold to the Indians and closed out his major league career with them.
