John Robert Anderson

Biographical Information[edit]

John Anderson was a pitcher at the University of Minnesota who was a teammate of Paul Molitor; an injury ended his playing career. He became a graduate assistant in 1978 under Dick Siebert. He became head coach at Minnesota in 1981; he was 26 years old, the youngest head coach in Big Ten Conference history.

Anderson managed Team USA to a Silver Medal in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup. It was the best US finish in the event between 1988 and the last Intercontinental Cup in 2010. He also had coached for them in the 1990 Baseball World Cup.

On May 12, 2002, Anderson won his 755th game, breaking Siebert's school record.

In 2008, Anderson was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, joining his mentor, Siebert.

Through 2009, Anderson holds the Big Ten record with 437 conference wins. He retired after the 2024 season, amassing over 1,300 wins.
