Biographical Information[edit]

Joe Zagarino played in the minor leagues from 1974 to 1977. He spent significant time at first base, third base and in the outfield. He was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 17th round of the 1974 amateur draft.

With the Great Falls Giants in 1974, Zagarino slashed .311/.365/.489 with 7 home runs and 42 RBI in 70 games, earning Pioneer League All-Star outfield honors alongside Marshall Edwards and Billy Taylor. The next year, he had 19 home runs, 80 RBI and a .272/.347/.441 line in 137 games for the Fresno Giants. After joining the California Angels system in 1976, he slipped to .233/.314/.402 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI in 104 games between two clubs. He played for the Asheville Tourists in the Texas Rangers system in 1977, hitting .182 in 5 games. Overall, Zagarino hit .267/.339/.437 with 40 home runs and 172 RBI in 316 games.
