Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Scott was the starting first baseman for the Birmingham Black Barons in 1948, playing in the 1948 Negro World Series.
He moved to the Louisville Buckeyes in 1949 and was briefly with the 1950 Philadelphia Stars. Scott spent most of 1950, though, with the Farnham Pirates, for whom he put up a .312/.485/.444 line with 124 walks (to 40 strikeouts) and 89 runs in 106 games. He led the Provincial League in runs and walks (no one else topped 100) and was third with 28 steals. Moved to first base, he struggled with the glove, making 33 errors to lead the loop's first basemen by 13. In 1951, Scott hit .264 and slugged .366 between two Provincial League clubs. He drew 111 walks in 113 games.
