Biographical Information[edit]

During an eleven-year major league career, Joe Schultz played for seven of the eight National League clubs. Following his playing days, he managed in the minors and was a scout. He became the Pittsburgh Pirates farm director in 1939.

Schultz died at the age of 47 after he was stricken with ptomaine poisoning while on a scouting trip for the Pirates. He was the father of major league player and manager Joe Schultz.
