Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Saporito was one of the few remaining players from the 1930s at the time of his death in 2014.
The 19-year-old played for the Monahans Trojans in 1937, hitting .309 with 145 hits and a .435 slugging percentage in the high-offense West Texas-New Mexico League. He played for the Big Spring Barons of the WTNML in 1938 and hit .284 in 108 games. Well-traveled in 1939, he played for the WTNML's Pampa Oilers, Midland Cowboys, Big Spring Barons and Amarillo Gold Sox, hitting a combined .270 in 89 games. In 1940, his final season, he played for the Johnstown Johnnies of the Pennsylvania State Association and the Clinton Giants of the Three-I League. His stats for the season are incomplete. He then served in the Army during World War II.
His obituary says he was a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers following his career.
He died on his 96th birthday in 2014.
