Biographical Information[edit]

Joe Kmak was in the majors in 1993 and 1995, appearing in both leagues.

He is the only major leaguer through 2019 whose last name starts with "Km".

Joe is one of ten big leaguers (through 2019) out of the University of California, Santa Barbara who had over 100 plate appearances in the majors. Others include Barry Zito and Jerry Reuss. Drafted in 1985, Joe had eight seasons in the minors before he came to the majors shortly before he turned 30 years of age. He was seven years younger than teammate Robin Yount, who was playing in his last season. Kmak was in AAA ball in 1994, but came back for part of 1995 with the 1995 Cubs, where he was the same age as teammate Shawon Dunston.

Joe continued to play minor league ball through 1998, appearing in AAA ball during nine seasons.

He later became a high school pitching coach and math teacher [1].
