Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Joe Hicks played two seasons of minor league ball in the St. Louis Browns organization, spending 1948 and 1949 with the Globe-Miami Browns of the Arizona-Texas League. From 1950 to 1975, he was head coach at Long Beach City College, winning 514 games there.

Away from the diamond, Hicks acted in small roles in many films and portrayed the Marlboro Man in television cigarette commercials. His brother Bill Hicks also played pro ball and coached at the college level.
