Biographical Information

Joe Etzel was a college coach.

Etzel had a 20-7, 2.45 record as a pitcher for Portland. He coached Central Catholic High in Portland for five years. He then was head coach of the University of Portland from 1966-1986, winning 378 games. His players included Ken Dayley, Bill Krueger, Tom Lampkin and Steve Wilson. He was Athletic Director of Portland from 1970-2004 as well. The school's baseball field was later named in his honor. He is in the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
