"Joe Crotty, is, without doubt, the best catcher in the Southern League. We could not get along without Joe." - Sporting Life's Memphis correspondent, July 6, 1887
Joe Crotty played four seasons in the majors, primarily as a catcher. In 87 games, he .182. Despite playing only 39 games for the Louisville Colonels in 1885, he is listed as the regular catcher by virtue of simply catching more than anyone else. He played in the minors through 1893.
