Biographical Information

Relief pitcher Joe Bauldree played in the minor and independent leagues from 1995 to 2002.

He was originally drafted out of high school by the Atlanta Braves in the 12th round of the 1995 amateur draft and played in their system through 1998. He had a 7.09 ERA as a rookie with the GCL Braves, walking 26 in 26 2/3 IP. In 1996, he was much better for the Danville Braves (3-2, 5 Sv, 1.41, 52 K in 44 2/3 IP) and pitched briefly for the Eugene Emeralds (8 R in 7 IP). He tied for 10th in the Appalachian League in saves. With the 1997 Macon Braves, he posted a 3-1, 4.62 record with 66 whiffs in 60 1/3 innings. He was third on the club with 39 pitching appearances. In a second season with Macon, he went 1-0 with 3 saves, a 4.05 ERA and 53 K in 53 1/3 IP while walking 19, showing much better control.

He then played in independent ball for the final four seasons of his career. He pitched in 1999 for the Nashua Pride (0-1, 2 R, 0 outs) and Massachusetts Mad Dogs (2-2, 4 Sv, 1.58 in 25 G). In 2000, he was 2-6 with two saves and a 3.82 ERA for the New Jersey Jackals. He tied for 10th in the Northern League East Division in losses and tied for 5th with 33 games pitched. In '01, he was with the Allentown Ambassadors (2-2, 5.82) and Camden Riversharks (6.06 ERA in 10 G). His woes continued in his final outing for Allentown in 2002 (7 R in 4 1/3 IP, L).

Overall, he was 13-15 with 14 saves and a 4.19 ERA in 184 games (14 starts).

He died in his sleep from heart disease on May 29, 2002 at the age of 25.
