Biographical Information[edit]

Joaquín Carbonell has been an outfielder for the Santiago de Cuba Wasps. As a teenager, he went 19 for 52 with 2 doubles, 4 home runs, 7 walks, 3 steals and 17 runs in 2008-2009. He hit .284/.393/.449 as the starting left fielder in 2009-2010, joining Alexei Bell and Reutilio Hurtado as starters. He struck out 60 times, though, third in the Cuban Serie Nacional behind Dary Bartolome and Joan Carlos Pedroso. He fielded .983. In 2010-2011, Carbonell batted .300/.415/.453 with 10 home runs and 75 runs in 87 games; he stole eight bases in nine tries and was 6th in the league in times hit by pitch (18). He fielded .982 with 11 assists in 87 games and joined Hurtado and Yusniel Ibáñez as the Gold Glove winners in the outfield.
