Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder/pitcher Jimmy Morrison played in the Boston Red Sox minor league system from 1986 to 1993.

He was drafted in the 10th round of the 1986 amateur draft, a few picks after utility infielder Jeff Reboulet and one selection ahead of third baseman Mike Blowers.

He started his professional career as a pitcher and played entirely in that role from 1986 to 1988. In 1989, he made 9 appearances (4 starts) off the mound and also had 48 at-bats, and by 1990, he was an outfielder entirely (though he made one more pitching appearance in 1991). He showed good speed in his four years as a non-pitcher, swiping 15, 29, 17 and 11 bases from 1990 to 1993.

Overall, he hit .238/.335/.318 with 259 hits at the plate and was 4-11 with a 5.12 ERA in 41 games (17 starts) off the mound.

He died on April 12, 2014 at the age of 46.
