Biographical Information

Infielder Jimmy Grant signed as a free agent with the Chicago White Sox before the 1939 season. Grant put together four solid seasons in the minors. After hitting .313 with 70 RBI's for the 1942 St. Paul Saints of the American Association, the White Sox called him to Comiskey Park and he made his major league debut on September 8, 1942. Things were a little different in the show and Jimmy hit just .167 while appearing in 12 games.

The White Sox kept Grant in the fold for 58 games of the 1943 season and he hit .259 in 197 at-bats, but on August 11, 1943 the Sox sold him to the Cleveland Indians for an unannounced sum and Jimmy finished the 1943 season, appearing in 15 outings with a .136 average, for the 1943 Indians. Grant spent the entire season with the Indians in 1944, appearing in 61 games and hitting at a .273 clip, but this would be his last year in the majors and he finished up this three-season run appearing in 146 games and hitting at a .246 average for his time in the major leagues.

Grant dropped back into the minors in 1945, where he hit .310 for the Sacramento Solons of the Pacific Coast League. He would spend the rest of his minor league career with eight different clubs through 1949, ending his minor league career of nine seasons, appearing in 707 games with twelve different teams.

After baseball, Grant became a self-employed contractor in Racine, WI, before becoming a foreman for Bukacek Construction Company, also of Racine. Grant retired in 1969 because of ill health and died at St Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN on July 8, 1970. James Charles Grant was buried at the West Lawn Memorial Park, Racine, WI.
