Biographical Information

Infielder Jimmie Hacker was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 1970 amateur draft (the 16th overall pick, right before John D'Acquisto) but did not sign. Instead, he attended Texas A&M University and was then selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the 1974 amateur draft after being the All-American second baseman. He was the All-Star 3B in the 1973 FEMBA Amateur World Series, as Team USA won the Gold. After splitting his first season between the Greenwood Braves (.356/.440/.400 in 29 G) and the Savannah Braves (2 for 13), he spent 1975 with Savannah, hitting .226/.342/.288 with 53 walks while fielding .908 at third base in 105 games in what would be his final pro season.
