Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jim Wilhelm played parts of two seasons in the majors with the San Diego Padres.

After attending Santa Clara University, Wilhelm was selected by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 1974 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer with the Walla Walla Padres. He reached the majors with the Padres as a September call-up in 1978 and hit a two-run double in his big league debut against the Atlanta Braves on September 4th. He hit .368 in 10 games for San Diego that year and was back with the club in the second half of the 1979 campaign, posting a .243 average in 39 games.

Prior to the 1980 season, he was traded along with Bob Owchinko to the Cleveland Indians for Jerry Mumphrey. Wilhelm apparently retired rather than report to the Indians, and he never played professionally again.
