Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Jim Speight played in the Philadelphia Phillies system from 1964 to 1967, though never above -- or below -- Single A. In 360 games, he slashed .234/.317/.306 with 10 home runs, 108 RBI and 276 hits over four seasons.

He was head coach at Durham High School from 1967 to 1973, then taught in the Orange County (NC) School system. He was head coach at High Point University from 1979 to 2001. He led the team to the final game of the 1979 NAIA College World Series, losing to David Lipscomb College.
