Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Mains pitched one game in the majors. He threw a complete game, and among the batters he faced was Luke Appling.
Willard Mains was the father of Jim Mains. Their ML debuts were separated by 55 years, easily a record.
(Next are Peaches Graham and Jack Graham, 43 years.)
Jim was at Harvard University during 1941-43. After his time, nobody from Harvard came to the majors until Ray Peters in 1970.
While still a professional ballplayer, Willard Mains started making bats in the off-season. His W.E. Mains company (also known later as Mains & Dolly and then Mains, Dolly and Ward) was successful for many years. Later, his son Jim started J.R Mains Co, making bats and furniture. See [1].
