Biographical Information

Father of Jack Graham, Peaches Graham played eight years in the major leagues, mostly as a catcher. In the minors, he was much more versatile, playing several other positions.

Graham made his major league debut in the American League with two games in 1902, but then spent the rest of his big-league days in the National League. His best year was with the 1910 Boston Doves, when he hit .282 on a team that hit .246.

Graham was with the Minneapolis Millers in 1905-07. In 1905, he appeared in 80 games, primarily in the outfield, but was also a pitcher who went 12-7 for the team. In 1906 he played infield and outfield and catcher, but did not appear at pitcher. In 1907 he played catcher and outfield.

The book Christy Mathewson says that in Graham's last major league season there was a game in May in which he gave up nine stolen bases to the New York Giants. That same season, when Ty Cobb and much of his Detroit Tigers team was briefly suspended (resulting from the famous incident when Cobb went after the heckler in the stands), a fellow named "Maharg", which is "Graham" spelled backwards, appeared as a substitute. While there have been claims that Peaches Graham was Maharg, it seems clear that such is not the case.
