Biographical Information[edit]
Left-hander Jim Goodwin spent six active seasons in professional baseball from 1944 to 1950. Goodwin also served 18 months in the United States Army during 1945 and 1946 in World War II.
Jim was back in baseball for the 1947 season and had a 11-7 year for the Jersey City Giants of the International League. On November 10, 1947 he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox from the New York Giants in the 1947 Rule V Draft.
Goodwin spent from April 24, 1948 to May 30 in the major leagues with the White Sox. He appeared in eight games, giving up nine hits and eleven runs with an 8.71 ERA, with no decisions and this was it for Goodwin in the big leagues.
Goodwin spent the balance of his six seasons in the minor leagues and had three double-digit winning seasons - 1944, 1947 and 1948. In all three of these seasons, he won more then he lost. His best record came in 1948, after his short stint in the big leagues, when he went 10-4 with a 3.02 ERA, appearing in 16 games and pitching 128 innings, for the Memphis Chickasaws of the Southern Association.
Goodwin left baseball after the 1950 season with a minor league career 50-38 record, appearing in 162 games and pitching 707 innings.
After baseball, Goodwin returned to his native Missouri where he worked and lived until his death on April 12, 2008 in St. Louis, MO. James Patrick Goodwin was 81 years of age.
