Biographical Information

Jim Fairey was a very good minor league hitter. In three full seasons (1965-1967), he never hit below .300 and exhibited some occasional power. In the major leagues, he was strictly a singles hitter, with limited success. Though never a regular, Fairey was pretty solid as an oft-used left-handed pinch hitter (.258/.303/.349 in 189 ABs) and late-inning defensive replacement in the outfield.

With both the Los Angeles Dodgers, who originally signed him as an amateur free agent, and the Montreal Expos, who selected him in the 1968 expansion draft, Fairey was a teammate of Ron Fairly, who he was sometimes confused with by inattentive fans, writers, and announcers.

Playing for the Albuquerque Dodgers in 1966, Fairey led all Texas League outfielders with 18 assists.

He managed the 1982 GCL Cubs and 1983-1984 Pikeville Cubs. He began scouting with the San Francisco Giants in 1985.
