Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Cooney is the son of former minor league pitcher and college coach Kevin Cooney. Jim played under his father's coaching in college. The Baltimore Orioles chose him in the 45th round of the 2002 amateur draft. Assigned to the Aberdeen IronBirds, he was excellent (3-1, 4 Sv, 1.36, .157 opponent average). The southpaw gave up 11 runs (10 earned) in 8 innings for the 2003 Delmarva Shorebirds and was let go. He finished the year with the independent Kenosha Mammoths and went 3-2 with a save and a 5.19 ERA in 25 outings. He ended his career with the 2004 Springfield/Ozark Ducks (0-3, 5.70).
