Biographical Information[edit]
"[Parrott] fully merits all the words of commendation bestowed on him by the baseball writers on the coast" - the Sporting News in 1892
Jiggs Parrott and his brother Tom Parrott were the first two Oregon-born players to come to the major leagues.
Jiggs was a weak-hitting infielder who seemed to be able to field, at least in his first couple of years. He was 20 years younger than fellow infielder (and manager) Cap Anson.
He is the first of three players remembered with the first name "Jiggs".
He played professional ball from 1890 to 1897. He died in 1898 of consumption. Prior to playing professional ball, he played amateur ball with his brothers Tom and Dode.
