Biographical Information[edit]

Second baseman Jesus Medrano played in the minor leagues from 1997 to 2004. Though he spent part of two seasons at Triple-A, he never ascended to the majors.

He was taken by the Florida Marlins in the 11th round of the 1997 amateur draft, a couple picks after pitcher Michael Wuertz. A speedster, he averaged nearly 32 stolen bases per season, with a high of 61 for the Brevard County Manatees in 2001; he also scored 93 runs that year, leading the Florida State League in both categories. In 1999, he had 42 steals, in 2002, he had 39 steals (making the Eastern League All-Star team; also played in Arizona Fall League that year) and in 2000 he had 32 steals. Though never too highly ranked, he was a Marlins top-30 prospect three years in a row (2001-2003) per Baseball America. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2003, hitting .228/.310/.298 in 31 games for the Albuquerque Isotopes.

In 2000, he was second in the FSL in sacrifice flies with 10, behind Scott Hodges' 11. In 2002, he tied Tony Alvarez and Esix Snead for the the Eastern League lead in times caught stealing (18) and he was second in walks (79), behind Val Pascucci's 93.

He wrapped up his career in the Boston Red Sox system in 2004. Overall, he batted .259/.341/.350 with 21 home runs, 253 RBI, 255 steals and 444 runs scored in 740 games over 8 seasons. His brothers, Kevin Medrano and Steve Medrano, played in the minor leagues.
