Biographical Information[edit]
Jesse Altenburg was in the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1916 and 1917. His teammates included the elderly Honus Wagner and the young Burleigh Grimes.
A SABR publication (The Inside Game, Vol. 7, # 2) indicates Altenburg also played for Kansas City in 1917 and is buried in North Star, MI.
Altenburg managed a number of minor league teams: the 1928 Hanover Raiders, Blue Ridge League; 1929 Salisbury-Spencer Colonials, Piedmont League; 1932 South Bend Twins, Central League; and 1940 Lansing Lancers Michigan State League.
