Jerry Parent played four seasons in the minors.

In 1995, Parent hit .445, 10th in NCAA Division II. He was named a Division II All-American outfielder. The Milwaukee Brewers chose him in the 31st round of the 1995 amateur draft. He had a superb pro debut with the Helena Brewers, batting .355/.477/.537 that summer with 50 walks, 50 runs and 63 RBI in 57 games. He was 5th in the Pioneer League in average and 6 RBI behind leader Shane Jones. He split All-Star honors at DH with Jones.

Parent split 1996 between the Beloit Snappers (.211/.336/.295 in 40 G) and Ogden Raptors (.385/.471/.550 in 62 G). He was second in the Pioneer League in average, trailing only Kevin Sweeney. He was not chosen as one of the league's All-Stars as Sweeney, Marcus McCain and Jason Weekley was tabbed instead. He was then traded with Greg Vaughn to the San Diego Padres for Marc Newfield, Ron Villone and Bryce Florie.

Jerry was unimpressive with the 1997 Clinton Lumber Kings (.260/.365/.309) and was moved to the mound (he had made five appearances with 1996 Beloit and 1997 Clinton) with the AZL Padres (3 R, 7 K in 6 1/3 IP). A full-time pitcher in '98, his last season, he went 4-7 with a 5.51 ERA for Clinton.
