Jeremy Cummings is in his 10th professional season in 2008 and made a trip to the Olympics with Team USA.

Cummings was 4-2 with 2 saves and a 4.72 ERA for WVU in 1998. The next year, the junior right-hander went 6-8 with a 3.69 ERA and struck out 116, 8 shy of the Big East Conference lead. The St. Louis Cardinals took him in the 21st round of the 1999 amateur draft. He debuted as a pro with the New Jersey Cardinals, going 6-6 with a 3.60 ERA. He walked only 7 in 85 innings.

In 2000, Jeremy battled a shoulder injury and threw just 3 games (1-1) for the Peoria Chiefs. The next year, the West Virginia native split time between Peoria (4-6, 3.22, 10 BB in 95 IP) and the Potomac Cannons (0-3, 8.53). Cummings made strides in 2002 for the Cannons (5-5, 3.75, 86 K in 81 2/3 IP) and the New Haven Ravens (4-3, 3.69).

Cummings continued his progress in 2003. After a 8-6, 3.34 record and .216 opponent average for the Tennessee Smokies (AA), he was promoted to the AAA Memphis Redbirds and was 7-3 with a 4.81 ERA. He led St. Louis farmhands with 15 wins, tied for 8th in the affiliated minor leagues.

In 2004, Cummings was 5-1 with a 3.44 ERA in 17 games for Tennessee before a broken finger ended his season. He had a fine winter for the Águilas del Zulia, going 7-3 with a 3.25 ERA and leading the Venezuelan League with 64 strikeouts.

Cummings split 2005 between the Springfield Cardinals (5-3, 4.50) and Memphis (7-1, 2.77) and missed time due to a suspension for violating Organized Baseball's banned substances policy.

A free agent, Jeremy signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was 8-6 with a 3.97 ERA as a regular starter for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. He again wintered in Venezuela, with a 3-1, 2.84 record for Zulia to help them win the pennant. On September 3 of that year, he tossed a no-hitter against the Rochester Red Wings.

Moving to the Minnesota Twins organization, Cummings was 3-5 with a 3.93 ERA for the Rochester Red Wings. He switched to the Toronto Blue Jays organization and went 3-3 with a 4.35 ERA for the Syracuse Chiefs the remainder of the campaign. He was 0-2 with a 14.40 ERA for the Caracas Lions in Venezuela.

Cummings opened 2008 in Taiwan with the Sinon Bulls and went 1-0 with a 3.31 ERA in 3 games before coming back to the US. Now with the Tampa Bay Rays, his 6th organization, he began 7-3 with a 2.95 ERA in 13 games for the Durham Bulls. He was added to the US's roster for the 2008 Olympics along with Brian Duensing after Clayton Richard and Geno Espineli were called up to the majors. In Beijing, he allowed one run and three hits in five innings of work. He tossed two shutout innings against Japan. He allowed a solo homer to Alfredo Despaigne to give Cuba a 3-2 lead in the 8th but the USA rallied to send it to extra innings.
