Biographical Information[edit]
Like his father, Horace Clarke, and younger brother, Jason Clarke, Jeff Clarke was a switch-hitting middle infielder. Jeff signed with the Kansas City Royals organization in 1991; some years previously, father Horace had been a bird dog for the Royals. He played 81 games for Appleton in the Midwest League (Class A). One of his opponents was childhood friend Midre Cummings, with whom Jeff had grown up in Frederiksted, St. Croix.
Jeff hit just .227/.283/.273 of 556 for the Foxes in 1991. He had 25 runs and only 14 RBI in 81 games and did not show great speed (5 SB, 8 CS) or defense (.925 fielding percentage as a utility infielder). Beset by injuries, he played only 13 games in 1992 (five for Appleton and eight for the Royals' affiliate in the Gulf Coast Rookie League). He was 7 for 36 with 2 doubles and 2 walks.
His pro career then came to an end. He had a career batting line of .223/.277/.270 with 50 runs produced in his 94 games.
