Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Jeff Braley played in the Detroit Tigers minor league system from 1989 to 1993. He led his league in games pitched three of his five seasons and led in saves once.

With the Bristol Tigers his first year, Braley went 1-5 with a 2.05 ERA in 23 games. The next year, the sidearm-throwing hurler was 9-3 with 27 saves, 51 games finished and a 1.87 ERA in 57 games for the Fayetteville Generals, overcoming 43 walks in 86 2/3 IP. He led the South Atlantic League in saves (3 more than Don Strange) and tied Brian Evans for 4th in games pitched. He easily led the Tigers chain in saves (12 more than Lino Rivera) and also led in appearances (3 more than Rivera).

He went 4-4 with 24 saves, 50 games finished and a 2.62 ERA for the Lakeland Tigers in 1991. He tied Graeme Lloyd for third in the Florida State League in saves and led the FSL in games pitched (5 ahead of #2 Julian Vasquez). He led Tigers farmhands in saves (9 ahead of John Doherty) and games pitched (8 more than Doherty).

In 1992, he was 3-6 with 15 saves and a 2.53 mark in 64 games for the London Tigers. He was 5th in the Eastern League in saves and led in games pitched (6 more than Rich Batchelor and Don Florence). He led the Tigers farm chain in games pitched for the third straight year (9 more than Mike Lumley) and was second in saves (behind only Tom Schwarber). He struggled with London in 1993, posting a 4.72 ERA in nine games (1-2, 2 Sv) to wrap up his career. Overall, Braley was 18-20 with a 2.41 ERA, 74 saves and 170 games finished in 214 games.
