Biographical Information[edit]

Jay Johnson is a college coach.

Johnson began his college career at Shasta College from 1997-1998 before the second baseman would transfer for his last two years to Point Loma Nazarene University in the 1999-2000 seasons. As a senior Johnson would hit .326.

After his college playing days, he became an assistant at his alma mater, Point Loma Nazarene, eventually taking over as head coach in 2005 after being an assistant from 2002-2004. From there he moved to the University of San Diego as an assistant. In 2014, he took over as head coach at the University of Nevada, Reno where, in two seasons, he amassed a record of 72-42. After the 2015 season, he moved over to become head coach of the University of Arizona. Johnson took Arizona to the College World Series in his first season with the school. After taking Arizona back to the CWS in 2021, he left for Louisiana State University in 2022.

Johnson has won Coach of the Year honors in both the Mountain West Conference in 2015, and the Pac-12 Conference in 2021. In 2023, he led the LSU Tigers to their 7th College World Series title.
