Biographical information[edit]

Jay Ahrendt is a former minor league baseball catcher who played two affiliated seasons - 1996 and 1999 - in the Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres farm systems.

He started his career off with a bang as he split time between the GCL Orioles and Bluefield Orioles in 1996. In 28 games, he hit .329 with one home run and 13 RBI. Let go by Baltimore, he hit .364 for the Will County Cheetahs. In 1997, he batted .325 with 6 homers and 20 RBI for the Cheetahs and .100 in a brief appearance in the Northern League.

In 1998, he spent the season with the Atlantic City Surf and Nashua Pride of the Atlantic League, hitting .261 overall.

In 1999, in the Padres organization (the Padres had signed him on January 9, 1999), he split time between the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Mobile Bay Bears, and combined he hit .250 with one home run and 16 RBI in 48 games.

Overall, in his two years in affiliated baseball service, Ahrendt hit .277 in 76 games. In 206 at-bats, he collected 57 hits, 10 doubles, one triple and two home runs. He scored 26 times and drove in 29 runs.
