Biographical Information[edit]

Jax Robertson has been active in baseball for many years, primarily as a scout.

Robertson was picked by the Cleveland Indians in the 30th round of the 1971 amateur draft but did not sign. Signed by the Chicago Cubs as an undrafted free agent in 1974, he hit .120/.205/.133 in 30 games for the Key West Conchs with 32 strikeouts in 85 AB; he was also 0 for 10 for the GCL Cubs to finish his career with a .106 average.

He was a scout with the New York Yankees from 1977-1980, most notably signing unheralded Don Mattingly. He was an assistant coach at Old Dominion University in 1981. From 1982-1987, he was a scout with the Detroit Tigers, signing Travis Fryman. He was Director of Scouting for the Tigers from 1988-1991.

From 1992-1999, Robertson was the national crosschecker of the Florida Marlins. He was a professional scout for the Marlins in 2000-2001. Jax then joined the Pittsburgh Pirates as a special assistant to the General Manager, a job he still holds in 2011.
