Biographical Information[edit]

Javier Salazar has been an infielder in the minors and for the Mexican national team.

Salazar debuted in 2015, going 0 for 1 for the Delfines de Ciudad del Carmen. In '16, he hit .182/.269/.209 and fielded .938 at SS, where he was their most-used player (47 G). That winter, he batted .174/.269/.304 as a backup for the Águilas de Mexicali. He started at short for the Generales de Durango (the Delfines having moved and been renamed) in 2017, producing at a .256/.319/.326 clip, stealing 16 bases in 23 tries and legging out 7 triples. He was 4th in the Mexican League in triples. In the winter, he was 3 for 11 with a walk, 3 runs and a RBI for Mexicali, backing up Daniel Castro and Walter Ibarra.

In '18, the 21-year-old showed progress at the plate. He hit .315/.374/.463 in the spring season for Durango, with 41 runs in 57 games. He made Mexico's squad for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, backing up Alberto Carreón at 2B, Paul León at 3B and Amadeo Zazueta at SS. He was 1 for 8 with a walk, triple and a run (the triple was Mexico's longest hit as they went homerless in seven games) while handling ten chances error-free. [1] In the fall season, he batted .301/.366/.404 for Durango and fielded .968 at SS. He hit only .197/.210/.230 for Mexicali in the winter, backing up Castro.

The Monterrey native was with Mexico for the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier and went 2 for 6 with a double, two runs and a RBI while his team fell just short of qualifying for the 2019 Pan American Games. [2]
