Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Javier Betancourt was signed by the Detroit Tigers as an amateur free agent at the age of 17 before the 2012 season. The scouts were Oscar Garcia and Pedro Chavez. He began his professional career with the VSL Tigers that year, hitting .333 in 32 games. He moved to the United States in 2013, playing for the GCL Tigers, where his average was again .333 in 50 games. He was second in the Gulf Coast League in average and made the league All-Star team. In 2014, he played 134 games for the West Michigan Whitecaps, hitting .269/.307/.344 while playing mainly second base. In 2015, he moved up to the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Florida State League where he hit .263/.304/.336 in 122 games. he was over two and half years younger than the average player in the circuit at the time. On November 18th, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in return for All-Star closer Francisco Rodriguez.
