Biographical Information[edit]

Jason Stokes was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 2nd round of the 2000 amateur draft despite a commitment to the University of Texas. He was signed by scout Bob Laurie for $2.027 million and made his pro debut the next summer.

Stokes was named Minor League Player of the Year by The Sporting News in 2002 while playing for the Kane County Cougars. He is, so far, the only winner of the award never to have appeared in a Major League game. In 2005, the first baseman was bothered by injuries but hit 5 homers in 13 games with the Albuquerque Isotopes.
