Biographical Information[edit]

Jason Sekany pitched in the Boston Red Sox system from 1996 to 2001, with a brief stay in the Cincinnati Reds system in 2000. He was taken by Boston in the 2nd round, 61st overall, in the 1996 amateur draft, one pick ahead of infielder Eric Munson and in the same round as future MVP Jimmy Rollins. He spent part of three seasons at Triple-A, but never ascended to the majors.

Beginning with a 2.31 ERA in 11 2/3 innings for the GCL Red Sox his first year, he then went 9-10 in 26 games (25 starts) between two clubs in 1997. With 10 victories, he won double-digit games for the first time in 1998, but posted a 5.21 ERA—though he rebounded to go 14-5 with a 3.40 ERA in 28 games (23 starts) in 1999. One of those starts was his first taste of Triple-A—in 5 2/3 innings, he allowed 7 hits and had a 4.76 ERA, taking the loss for the Pawtucket Red Sox. He tied five other pitchers for the Eastern League lead in shutouts (2) that year and was the only one of the group not to make the majors. He posted ERAs of 6.19 and 6.63 over his final two seasons, respectively, to wrap up his career.

Overall, he went 38-42 with a 4.85 ERA in 136 games (103 starts). In 666 innings, he allowed 664 hits and 280 walks (1.417 WHIP), while striking out 487 batters. He was 3-7 with a 6.08 ERA in 25 games (10 starts) at Triple-A.
