Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop Jason Martinson began his professional career in 2010. His brother Jordan Martinson followed him into the pro ranks.

He was taken as the first overall pick of the fifth round of the 2010 amateur draft by the Washington Nationals. The scout was Tyler Witt.

Though strikeout prone, he exhibited an exciting mix of power and speed early in his career. In 2011, he had 19 home runs (4th in the Nationals organization) and 26 stolen bases in 129 games for the Hagerstown Suns while striking out 144 times. He was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2012 after hitting 22 home runs, driving in 106 runs, scoring 104 runs and stealing 30 bases in the low minors. He was one of only two minor leaguers that year to top both 100 RBI and 100 runs. He also had 167 strikeouts. He had 16 home runs (4th in the Nats chain) and 17 swipes in 2013 and 10 home runs and 23 steals in 2014. He began 2015 with the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs. In his first taste of Triple-A, he made the Mid-Season All-Star team.
