Biographical Information[edit]

Jason Markovitz has pitched in the minors.

Markovitz was 5-5 with a 2.45 ERA as a junior in high school, hitting .383 and slugging .617. As a senior, he had a 1-1, 0.74 record. He fanned 17 one game in high school, a league record. As a college freshman, he had a 3.24 ERA in 8 1/3 IP over 15 games as a LOOGY. The next year, he had a 1.08 ERA in the same role (8 1/3 IP over 11 G). The Atlanta native was 1-1 with a 4.12 ERA in 2009. In 2010, Markovitz went 2-2 with a save and a 2.93 ERA, striking out 34 and walking 15 in 27 2/3 IP. The Seattle Mariners took him in the 13th round of the 2010 amateur draft. The scout was John Ramey. Jewishbaseballnews.com identified him as the first Jewish pitcher taken that year and the second Jewish player, following Jake Lemmerman. At the time, some players were still being checked for religious background.

In his pro debut, Markovitz pitched for the Everett AquaSox, with 2 wins, 2 losses, 4 saves and a 3.20 ERA in 11 outings. He struck out 25 in 19 2/3 innings while only walking four. Promoted to the Clinton Lumber Kings, he allowed 10 runs in 20 innings. The next summer, he was with Clinton (1-0, 2 UER in 8 1/3 IP) and the High Desert Mavericks (3-2, 6.20, .364 opponent average).
