Biographical Information

Pitcher Jason Garcia started the 2015 season as a member of the Baltimore Orioles' bullpen, making his big league debut on April 8th when he pitched a scoreless inning in a 2-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Originally a member of the Boston Red Sox organization after being drafted in the 17th round of the 2010 amateur draft, he was taken by the Houston Astros in the Rule V Draft on December 11, 2014, and on the same day purchased by the Orioles. He made 8 appearances for Baltimore in April and early May, with no decisions and an ERA of 5.93, before being sent down to the minors. He came back in early August and after a couple of scoreless outings, was asked to pitch the last two innings of an 18-2 win over the Oakland Athletics on August 16th. He did it without allowing a run, but what was unusual was that he had his first career plate appearance as a professional in that game, this coming because earlier in the contest, DH Steve Clevenger had moved behind the plate, thus forfeiting the use of the designated hitter for the final innings. He therefore came up to bat in the 8th, facing 1B Ike Davis, who was pitching mop-up relief for the A's, and managed to draw a walk.
