Biographical Information[edit]
Jason Brown played college ball at the University of Southern California and earned a degree in Business Administration. Brown was a member of the Trojan squad that made the 1995 College World Series, its first trip to the College World Series since 1978 as USC reached the national title game before losing to Cal State Fullerton. After college, he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as an undrafted free agent and played in their minor league system from 1997-1999. Brown went on to play another nine seasons in the farm systems of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Florida Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Montreal Expos, and New York Yankees. He played parts of five seasons in AAA, but never received a call to "The Show."
Brown turned to coaching in 2009 and started as a varsity assistant coach with the Palos Verdes High School Sea Kings and he coached there through the 2011 season. He returned to USC in September 2011 and served as the Trojans volunteer assistant coach during the 2012 season. From 2009 through 2014, he also worked as an assistant coach for the Orleans Firebirds in the prestigious Cape Cod League
In 2015 the New York Yankees hired Brown as a bullpen coach for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and he stayed in that role for two years. The Yankees promoted Brown to the major league staff in 2017 as their bullpen catcher and a coaching assistant. Brown was a catching coach with the Yankees in 2018 and 2019.
Brown moved to the west coast in 2020 to work as a bullpen catcher for the Los Angeles Angels. He remained in that position through 2025. In some years, he also was listed as a catching coach or a coaching assistant.
