Jason Benetti

Biographical Information[edit]

Play-by-Play announcer Jason Benetti partnered with retired pitcher Steve Stone to form the Chicago White Sox broadcasting duo for five years, from 2016, when he succeeded Ken Harrelson, until 2023. He then moved to the Detroit Tigers starting in 2024.

He has also called Korea Baseball Organization games for ESPN, Syracuse Chiefs games, Chicago Bulls games and worked college bowl games and some NFL games following his move to FOX Sports in 2022. In 2020, he was named Illinois Sportscaster of the Year. In 2021, he was the play-by-play announcer for NBC's coverage of the Tokyo Olympics baseball tournament. He was the featured speaker at the banquet lunch at the 2023 SABR Convention, held in Chicago, IL.

On August 16, 2019, with Stone taking a short break, he called a game with NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton serving as his guest analyst. Walton had a lot of experience calling Bulls games, and as a lifelong fan of baseball, was pretty much on top of things during the game, although he did throw in some of the colorful turns of phrase that had made his fame. Both Walton and Benetti were dressed in tie-dye psychedelic shirts for the occasion (it was a special 1970s-themed week) but what could have been a very odd situation was made to work by Jason's thorough professionalism.

He was born with cerebral palsy, likely the result of his premature birth.
