Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Jasha Balcom played four seasons in the minors.
He was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 42nd round of the 2000 amateur draft out of high school. He did not sign and was later taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 33rd round of the 2003 amateur draft after hitting .274/.391/.370 in his last season of college. He made his pro debut that summer, hitting .329/.414/.388 in 24 games for the AZL Cubs; only Ryan Fitzgerald had a better average for the team. With the 2004 Boise Hawks, he batted .278/.331/.330 and fielded .992 in the outfield. He led the Northwest League with 12 sacrifice hits and tied Tug Hulett for the most times caught stealing (7). He tied for 10th with 10 steals. He was 3 for 13 with two walks for the 2005 Peoria Chiefs.
After a year off, Balcom played for the South Georgia Peanuts in the independent South Coast League in 2007, leading the circuit with 34 stolen bases while only being caught fives times. He hit .304/.384/.395 with 65 runs in 86 games. He was also 4th in the loop in runs and tied for 4th in walks (42).
Following his playing career, Balcom founded Hitters Box Baseball academy in Duluth, Georia. He also served as a stunt double in the movie 42, portraying Jackie Robinson in game action sequences.
