Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Jared Hoerman played in the minor leagues from 1999 to 2005. He reached Triple-A once, in 2004, but never made it to the major leagues.

The hurler was drafted three times. Initially, he was taken by the New York Yankees in the 44th round of the 1995 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the Yankees in the 34th round of the 1996 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Dan Wheeler, but again, he did not sign. After being taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 28th round of the 1997 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Jason Jiménez, Hoerman still didn't sign. He was eventually picked up by the Seattle Mariners as an undrafted free agent.

Hoerman was a strikeout artist right off the bat, K-ing 52 batters in 39 2/3 frames between two clubs his first season; he also had a 2.50 ERA. In 2000, he slipped to 0-4 with a 4.70 ERA in 22 appearances for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, but he still averaged 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings. In 2001, he was 9-2 with a 1.89 ERA in 32 games (13 starts) between two clubs, striking out 119 batters in 109 1/3 innings. His stay with the Timber Rattlers was especially impressive, as he had a 1.49 ERA in 90 2/3 frames. Moving into the closer's role for 2002, Hoerman was 7-4 and 29 saves with a 2.77 ERA in 54 games for the San Bernardino Stampede, striking out 97 batters in 74 2/3 frames. With the San Antonio Missions in 2003, he went 3-6 with 36 saves and a 3.84 ERA in 56 games—however, for the first time in his career, he averaged less than a strikeout per inning. In 2004, he was 5-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 50 games (one start) between two clubs; in his first and only try at Triple-A, he was 5-1 with a 4.91 ERA in 39 games for the Tacoma Rainiers. He spent most of 2005 in independent ball, but also pitched a couple games in the Chicago Cubs system. He had a 2.60 mark in indy ball and a 0.00 ERA in Chicago's system.

Overall, Hoerman was 28-20 with 177 games finished, 91 saves and a 3.12 ERA in 271 games (19 starts) over seven seasons. In 441 1/3 innings, he allowed 378 hits and 189 walks (1.285 WHIP), while striking out 448 batters (9.1 K/9 IP).
