Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Janior Montes has played for the Nicaraguan national team in numerous events.
He debuted for Nicaragua in the 2010 Pan American Games Qualification Tournament alongside veteran backstops Marlon Abea and Adolfo Matamoros, going 0 for 2 with one time hit by pitch. He went 1 for 10 with 3 walks and 2 runs in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, splitting work behind the dish with Abea. Starting for Nicaragua in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he went 1 for 5, his lone hit coming off Sugar Ray Marimon. He helped Nicaragua to Gold in the 2013 Central American Games. Backing up Luany Sánchez in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, he was 1 for 2 with a double and a run for the Silver Medal winners.
Montes batted only .105/.100/.316 in the 2015 Pan American Games but one of his two hits was a homer off Cuba's Freddy Asiel Álvarez. In the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he was 2 for 6 with a steal and a run, with hits off Martin Dewald and Giovanny Gallegos. He hit .176/.222/.353 when Nicaragua won the 2017 Central American Games but led the comeback from a 2-0 deficit against Costa Rica to avoid an upset; he hit a grand slam in the 6th off Rubén Rojas.
