Biographical information

Jamie Richmond is a pitcher in the Oakland Athletics chain who has appeared for the Canadian national team.

Richmond was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the 31st round of the 2004 amateur draft as a draft-and-follow pick. He then went to community college and helped Texarkana make the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series. He debuted professionally with the 2005 GCL Braves, going 2-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 8 games. He held opponents to a .179 average and struck out 12 in 11 2/3 IP. In 2006, the right-hander was very impressive with the Danville Braves, posting a 7-1, 1.21 record. He struck out 52 and only walked four in 67 innings. He did not allow a home run. He was one win behind leaguer leader Jose Lugo and led the Appalachian League in ERA, 0.90 ahead og the next hurler. He was named to the league All-Star team and won Pitcher of the Year honors. Baseball America rated him as the #5 prospect in the league, between Tommy Hanson and Daryl Jones.

While less dazzling in 2007, Richmond had a good first year in a full-season league, with a 7-6, 3.05 record for the Rome Braves with only 25 walks in 138 2/3 IP. He was 7th in the South Atlantic League in ERA. For the 2007 Baseball World Cup, Jamie joined another Richmond, Scott Richmond (no relation), on Team Canada. Jamie Richmond pitched in one game in the Cup, against the German national team. He allowed four hits and struck out four in 7 shutout innings for the win.

In January of 2008, Richmond was dealt by Atlanta along with Joey Devine to the Oakland Athletics for Mark Kotsay.

Richmond was on the Canadian squad that won the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament. He was unimpressive, with a 5.63 ERA in two middle relief stints. He allowed four runs against Australia in a 10-5 loss. Against Germany, he allowed the Europeans' lone run in a 2-1 defeat when Kai Gronauer and Jendrick Speer doubled off of him. He gave up four doubles in eight innings in the competition.
