Biographical Information

Jamie McOwen had the longest hitting streak in Organized Baseball in the first decade of the 21st Century.

McOwen hit .351 as a college freshman, second on his team. As a sophomore, he led FIU in RBI (71), triples (4), RBI (71) and total bases (134); the RBI total was third-highest in school history. He slugged .565 and was third in the Sun Belt Conference in RBI. As a junior in 2007, he batted .414 with 22 doubles, finishing second in his Conference and 11th in NCAA Division I in average; he was named to the All-Conference outfield.

McOwen was chosen by the Seattle Mariners in the sixth round of the 2007 amateur draft. He hit .269/.297/.322 for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers that year, with only 9 walks to 55 strikeouts in 56 games.

In 2008, McOwen hit .263/.324/.392 for the High Desert Mavericks, legging out 9 triples and stealing 28 bases in 41 tries after 5 steals in 9 attempts his first year in pro ball. He had 44 walks to 103 strikeouts. He tied for third among Seattle farmhands in swipes. He joined the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx for the playoffs and had one double in four at-bats. He then was with the Waikiki BeachBoys of the Hawaii Winter League, hitting .253/.361/.410.

McOwen hit in 45 straight games for High Desert in 2009, the 8th-longest streak in minor league history at the time.
