Biographical Information[edit]
James Lehan was for many decades thought to be Mike Lehane, a player who appeared in 1890 and 1891. However, SABR researchers in 2004 uncovered that he was a different individual, and removed his statistics from those of Lehane. Lehan was 28 when he appeared in the Union Association in 1884, getting 4 hits in 12 at-bats, and playing mostly shortstop for the Washington Nationals. That team had a particularly fluid roster, and Lehan and the player simply known as "Pierce" and later identified as George Pierce were given informal try-outs in late April. Neither impressed enough to be retained for more than a few games.
