Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher James Gillheeney began his professional career in 2009.

He was taken by the Seattle Mariners in the 8th round of the 2009 amateur draft, one pick ahead of first baseman Nate Freiman and ahead of notables Paul Goldschmidt and Brian Dozier. The scout was Rob Mummau.

In just his second professional season, he won 10 games between the Clinton LumberKings, High Desert Mavericks and West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. He struggled the next two seasons, posting ERAs over 5 both years, before reaching Triple-A for the first time in 2013. In his first taste of Triple-A, he was 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in six games (five starts) for the Tacoma Rainiers. He spent most of the year at Double-A. After another down year spent mostly at Triple-A in 2014, Gillheeney spent most of the first half of 2015 at Double-A.

Gillheeney's brother, Gary, was drafted out of high school in 2007 and followed him to NC State but did not play pro ball.
