Biographical Information[edit]
Shortstop James Camacho played in the minor leagues in 1981 and 1982.
He was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 30th round of the 1980 amateur draft, one pick after third baseman Chris Sabo, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Oakland Athletics in the ninth round of the 1981 amateur draft, ahead of first baseman Fred McGriff.
He played for the San Jose Missions in 1981, hitting .261/.324/.372 with four home runs and 27 RBI in 57 games. With the Modesto A's in 1982, he batted .246/.356/.333 with 35 stolen bases and 67 walks to just 63 strikeouts in 124 games. He was two walks shy of cracking the California League top 10.
He died May 3, 2002 at 44 years old.
