Biographical Information[edit]

Jair Camargo has played in the majors and for the Colombian national team.

Camargo signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015. He made his pro debut the next summer, hitting .250/.309/.346 between the DSL Dodgers 2 and DSL Dodgers 1. In 2017, he hit .273/.307/.402 for the AZL Dodgers and was their primary catcher. In 2018, he appeared for the AZL Dodgers (.234/.229/.404, 0 BB in 15 G) and Ogden Raptors (.273/.310/.470, 18 RBI in 18 G). He then represented Colombia in the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier, when they finished 2nd and made it to the 2019 Pan American Games. He hit .236/.301/.342 for the 2019 Great Lakes Loons and threw out 43% who tried to steal.

He was traded to the Minnesota Twins on February 10, 2020 as part of a large deal that also sent P Kenta Maeda to Minnesota in return for P Brusdar Graterol, OF Luke Raley and future considerations. That minor league season was cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic. He batted .236/.279/.418 for the 2021 Cedar Rapids Kernels with more homers (13) than walks (12); he struck out 106 times in 263 at-bats. He split '22 between Cedar Rapids (.296/.314/.496 in 28 G), the FCL Twins (3 for 11, 2B, 3B, BB) and the Wichita Wind Surge (.239/.306/.472 in 46 G), smacking 18 homers. His K:BB ratio remained poor at 107:20. He was 9th in the Twins chain in dingers.

Moving up to the AAA St. Paul Saints in 2023, he belted 21 homers while hitting .259/.323/.503. Among Minnesota's minor leaguers, only Yunior Severino went deep more. Iván Herrera was named the 2023 IL's All-Star catcher, though. He began 2024 back with the Saints and was at .268/.362/.463 after 11 games. He then got called up to Minnesota when Carlos Correa went on the injured list. He made his major league debut on April 16th, when he was used as a pinch-hitter in the 9th inning of an 11-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, drew a walk and eventually came around to score on a single by José Miranda.
